Mustard Oil Khicuri (সরিষার তেলে খিচুড়ি)

Ingredients :

  1. Bashmati rice-1 cup
  2. Massor dal-1/2 cup
  3. Moong dal-1/2 cup
  4. Onion-1 medium( chopped )
  5. Green chili-7/8 pieces or your choice
  6. Turmeric powder-1 ts
  7. Cardamom-5/6 pieces
  8. Cinnamon stick-4 pieces
  9. Bay leaves-4 pieces
  10. Ginger paste-1 Tbs
  11. Garlic paste- 1Tbs
  12. Mustard oil-4 Tbs
  13. Salt- 1 ts or your choice

Procedure :

  1. Wash rice and dal together and drain water properly.
  2. Heat oil in the pan. Add chopped onion, cardamom, cinnamon stick and bay leaves. Fry them around 1 minute.
  3. Now add rice and dal and the rest of the ingredients. Fry them in medium heat around 4-5 minutes.
  4. Now add hot water around 4 cups. Cover it with lid. Cook in medium heat. When become maximum cooked turn the heat low.

  2. Hi, it seems nice recipe! Is there any change in the taste if soybean/vegetable oil are used in stead of mustard oil? Could you please inform me the advantage of frying the uncooked rice for 5 min & frying other stuffs just 1 min is enough?

    Thank you for the comment. There is no harm to use any other cooking oil instead of mustard oil.
    The frying of rice gives a nice aroma to your dish. If you fry the onion and other stuff for long time then it will start to burn while you will fry the rice, and obviously you do not want the burning flavor in you dish...:)
